The Emile range of resources has been developed by a group of teachers, academics and game developers. Together we have developed and supplied games-based learning resources to over 15% of the primary schools in the UK & Ireland. Our range of resources are all underpinned by robust pedagogical research and are tested rigorously by teachers in classrooms.
Initiated by a Knowledge Transfer Partnership and part funded by Innovate UK, Emile was developed in conjunction with the Faculty of Education of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK based on robust pedagogy. The multi-award-winning resource delivers a real impact on the learning outcomes of students throughout key stages 1 and 2, while reducing teacher workload significantly, especially when combined with Emile's own schemes of work.
UK teachers' feedback has been integral to the development of Emile. As a direct result, Emile now features:
- a Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) Emulator with additional controls to control the time limits, the questions asked and slow students down;
- a full and comprehensive spelling scheme targeted directly at the statutory spelling words;
- end of unit and end of block assessments that dovetail with the White Rose scheme of work; and
- tools to help students in intervention groups including auto generated knowledge gap analyses.
Used in thousands of schools and multi-academy trusts across the country, Emile is perfect for homework, classroom work, assessments (both formative and summative) and intervention groups.
The core gameplay revolves around a series of mini-games, each designed to target a specific skill. Literacy activities include letter recognition, phonics, spelling simple words, and early reading comprehension. Children are introduced to the alphabet through interactive games that involve tracing letters, matching letters to sounds, and forming simple words. Phonics exercises help children understand the relationship between letters and sounds, building a foundation for reading. Spelling games challenge children to spell age-appropriate words, reinforcing their letter recognition and phonics skills. Early reading comprehension activities introduce children to simple stories and questions, encouraging them to understand and interpret written text.
Numeracy activities in Learn with Emile focus on number recognition, counting, basic arithmetic, and shape recognition. Children learn to identify numbers through interactive games that involve counting objects, matching numbers to quantities, and sequencing numbers. Counting exercises reinforce number recognition and help children develop a sense of quantity. Basic arithmetic activities introduce simple addition and subtraction concepts through visual representations and interactive problems. Shape recognition games expose children to various geometric shapes, encouraging them to identify and differentiate between circles, squares, triangles, and other common shapes.
Logical thinking skills are developed through puzzles, pattern recognition exercises, and problem-solving activities. Puzzles challenge children to use critical thinking and spatial reasoning to complete tasks. Pattern recognition exercises help children identify and continue sequences of shapes, colors, or numbers, fostering their ability to recognize patterns and predict outcomes. Problem-solving activities present children with scenarios that require them to think creatively and find solutions, promoting their analytical and problem-solving skills.
Learn with Emile incorporates a reward system to motivate children and encourage continued learning. Children earn virtual rewards, such as stickers or badges, for completing activities and achieving milestones. This positive reinforcement helps children feel a sense of accomplishment and encourages them to continue practicing and improving their skills. The game also features a progress tracker that allows parents and educators to monitor a child's development and identify areas where they might need additional support.
The app's interface is designed to be child-friendly and intuitive. Bright colors, engaging animations, and simple navigation make it easy for young children to use the app independently. The game also features clear audio instructions and feedback, ensuring that children understand the tasks and receive appropriate guidance. The absence of in-app purchases or external advertisements creates a safe and focused learning environment.
Learn with Emile offers a personalized learning experience, adapting to each child's individual pace and progress. The difficulty of the activities gradually increases as the child masters new skills, ensuring that they are consistently challenged and motivated. The app also provides personalized feedback and recommendations based on the child's performance, helping them identify areas for improvement and focus their learning efforts.
The game is designed to be used both at home and in educational settings. Parents can use the app to supplement their child's learning at home, providing them with additional practice and reinforcement of key concepts. Educators can integrate the app into their classroom activities, using it as a tool to introduce new concepts, reinforce learning, and provide individualized support to students.
Learn with Emile is a valuable resource for parents and educators seeking to provide young children with a fun and effective way to learn fundamental skills. The game's engaging activities, personalized learning experience, and child-friendly interface make it an ideal tool for fostering early childhood development and preparing children for future academic success. The app's focus on core skills such as literacy, numeracy, and logical thinking provides a solid foundation for future learning, equipping children with the essential tools they need to thrive in school and beyond.
