Sudoku Solver is a logic-based number placement puzzle game played on a 9x9 grid. The grid is divided into nine 3x3 subgrids called "boxes," "blocks," or "regions." The objective is to fill the grid with digits from 1 to 9 such that each row, each column, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes contains all of the digits from 1 to 9. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid, which represents the starting point. The difficulty of the puzzle is determined by the number of initially filled cells (givens) and the complexity of the logic required to solve it.

The core solving strategies revolve around identifying cells where a digit can be placed with certainty. This involves examining the row, column, and box that the cell belongs to, and eliminating potential candidates based on the existing numbers in those groups. Common techniques include "scanning" (looking for cells where a digit can only be placed in one location within a row, column, or box), "candidate elimination" (removing digits from the list of possibilities for a cell based on conflicts with other cells), and identifying "naked singles" (cells where only one candidate digit remains). More advanced techniques involve identifying patterns like "hidden singles" (a digit is a candidate in only one cell within a row, column, or box, even if other candidates exist in that cell), "naked pairs/triples/quads" (two/three/four cells in a row, column, or box contain the same two/three/four candidate digits), and "hidden pairs/triples/quads" (two/three/four digits are candidates in only two/three/four cells within a row, column, or box). Some extremely difficult Sudoku puzzles require techniques like X-wings, Swordfish, and Jellyfish, which involve complex pattern recognition and candidate elimination strategies across multiple rows and columns. A valid Sudoku puzzle has only one unique solution. Solvers employ various strategies, from simple scanning to advanced pattern recognition, to deduce the correct placement of digits and complete the grid.
