Xiangqi Master is a Chinese chess game developed by Grand Master International, a leading publisher of strategy games. It is a two-player strategy board game played on a 9x10 checkered board with 32 pieces. The goal of the game is to checkmate the opponent's general.

Gameplay

Xiangqi is played on a 9x10 checkered board with 90 intersections. The board is divided into three sections: the palace, the river, and the camp. Each player has 16 pieces, which are arranged in the following formation:

* General: 1 piece, placed in the center of the palace

* Advisors: 2 pieces, placed to the left and right of the general

* Elephants: 2 pieces, placed behind the advisors

* Chariots: 2 pieces, placed behind the elephants

* Horses: 2 pieces, placed behind the chariots

* Cannons: 2 pieces, placed behind the horses

* Soldiers: 5 pieces, placed in the second rank of the camp

Movement

Each type of piece has its own unique rules of movement:

* General: Moves one square horizontally or vertically, but cannot leave the palace.

* Advisors: Move one square diagonally, but cannot leave the palace.

* Elephants: Move two squares diagonally, but cannot cross the river.

* Chariots: Move any number of squares horizontally or vertically.

* Horses: Move in an "L" pattern - two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicularly. Horses can jump over other pieces.

* Cannons: Move any number of squares horizontally or vertically, but must jump over another piece to capture.

* Soldiers: Move one square forward, but can move one square sideways to capture. Soldiers cannot move backward.

Gameplay

Players take turns moving one piece at a time. The player with the red pieces moves first. The game ends when one player's general is checkmated, which means it is under attack and cannot escape.

Checkmate

Checkmate occurs when the general is under attack by one or more of the opponent's pieces and cannot move out of check. The player whose general is checkmated loses the game.

Special Rules

* River Crossing: Elephants cannot cross the river until the game has reached the endgame, when there are only a few pieces left on the board.

* Cannon Jumping: Cannons must jump over another piece to capture. If there is no piece to jump over, the cannon cannot move.

* Soldier Promotion: If a soldier reaches the other side of the board, it can be promoted to any other piece (except the general).
