A straightforward, no-nonsense game of cribbage

Straight Cribbage was designed to be the most convenient way to enjoy a quick, hassle-free game of cribbage. It features a competent opponent (with randomly dealt cards—there is *no bias*) for players who are already familiar with the game.

Overview

Straight Cribbage is a two-player card game that combines elements of strategy and luck. The goal of the game is to be the first player to reach 121 points by forming combinations of cards called "cribs" and "hands."

Setup

A standard 52-card deck is used. Each player is dealt six cards, and six additional cards are placed face down in the middle of the table to form the "crib." The remaining cards form the "stock" pile.

Gameplay

The game consists of two phases:

Phase 1: The Crib

* The player who cuts the deck gets to deal first.

* The dealer deals six cards to each player and six cards to the crib.

* The players look at their own cards and decide which four cards they want to contribute to the crib.

* The dealer takes the crib cards and adds them to their hand.

Phase 2: The Play

* The non-dealer starts the play by drawing a card from the stock pile.

* The players take turns playing cards to form combinations that score points.

* Combinations include:

* Fifteen (two or more cards that add up to 15)

* Pair (two cards of the same rank)

* Three of a kind (three cards of the same rank)

* Four of a kind (four cards of the same rank)

* Straight (three or more cards in sequence)

* Flush (four or more cards of the same suit)

* Players can also score points by "pegging" cards that match the suit or rank of the card that was just played.

* The play continues until one player reaches 121 points or the stock pile runs out.

Scoring

* The crib is scored first, followed by the player's hands.

* The player with the highest-scoring hand and crib wins the game.

* Points are awarded for the following:

* Fifteen: 2 points

* Pair: 2 points

* Three of a kind: 6 points

* Four of a kind: 12 points

* Straight: 1 point per card in the sequence

* Flush: 4 points

* Nobs (Jack of the same suit as the starter card): 1 point

* Pegging: 1 point per card matched

Strategy

* Keep high-scoring cards in your hand for later.

* Contribute low-scoring cards to the crib.

* Pay attention to the cards that have been played to anticipate potential combinations.

* Don't be afraid to peg points, even if it gives your opponent an advantage.

* If you have a good hand, try to score as many points as possible in the play to avoid giving your opponent a chance to catch up.
