Overview

Doppelkopf is a trick-taking card game for four players in two fixed partnerships. It is played with a deck of 48 cards, consisting of four suits: Clubs, Spades, Hearts, and Diamonds. Each suit has 12 cards, including the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3.

Gameplay

1. Bidding: The game begins with a bidding round, where each player in turn bids on the number of tricks they believe their partnership can take. The highest bid becomes the target number of tricks.

2. Card Dealing: After the bidding, the cards are dealt to the players in batches of four. Each player receives 12 cards.

3. Playing: The player to the left of the dealer leads with any card. The other players must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card, including a trump card.

4. Tricks: A trick is won by the player who plays the highest card of the suit that was led, or by the player who plays a trump card. The winner of the trick leads the next card.

5. Trump Suit: The trump suit is determined by the suit that was bid on. For example, if the highest bid was for 12 tricks in Clubs, then Clubs would be the trump suit.

6. Scoring: After all the tricks have been played, the partnerships count the number of tricks they took. If a partnership takes the exact number of tricks they bid on, they score 10 points plus 1 point for each trick taken over the bid. If a partnership fails to take the number of tricks they bid on, they lose 10 points.

Special Rules

* Double: A player may double the bid of the previous player, doubling the potential score for that bid.

* Re: A player may rebid the same number of tricks as the previous player, but with a different trump suit.

* Kontra: A player may kontra the bid of the previous player, doubling the potential score for that bid and forcing the partnership to take the exact number of tricks they bid on.

* Rekontra: A player may rekontra the bid of the previous player, doubling the potential score for that bid again and forcing the partnership to take more tricks than they bid on.

Winning

The partnership with the highest score after a predetermined number of rounds wins the game.
