UEFA Champions LeagueThe UEFA Champions League, often referred to as the Champions League, is the most prestigious club competition in European football, organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Format
The tournament follows a knockout format, consisting of a group stage and a series of knockout rounds. In the group stage, 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four. Each team plays home and away matches against the other teams in their group. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds.
The knockout rounds consist of two-legged ties, with the away goals rule in effect. If the aggregate score is level after the second leg, the team with the most away goals advances. If the away goals are equal, the tie goes to extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.
History
