The league operates on a double round-robin system, with each team playing every other team twice, once at home and once away. A total of 36 matches are played by each team during the regular season, which typically runs from July to May.

Qualification and Relegation

The top two teams in the league standings at the end of the regular season automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage. The third-placed team enters the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, while the fourth-placed team qualifies for the UEFA Europa League group stage. The fifth-placed team enters the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

The bottom two teams in the league standings are automatically relegated to the Challenge League, the second-tier division in Switzerland. The ninth-placed team plays a relegation playoff against the third-placed team from the Challenge League to determine who will remain in the Super League.
