Public TV is a social deduction game, often played with a moderate to large group of players. The core mechanic revolves around a hidden traitor or saboteur role amongst a group of "viewers" who are trying to produce a quality public television broadcast. The saboteur's goal is to undermine the broadcast without being detected. The viewers, on the other hand, must identify and eliminate the saboteur while still managing to create a successful show.

Gameplay typically involves a series of rounds where players contribute to the show in some way, often through selecting options or performing actions that either benefit or harm the production. The saboteur will subtly sabotage the efforts, making it harder for the viewers to succeed. Throughout the game, players will engage in discussions, accuse each other, and try to deduce who the saboteur is based on their actions and behaviors. Voting mechanics are often used to eliminate suspected saboteurs from the game. The viewers win if they successfully produce a high-quality broadcast and eliminate the saboteur. The saboteur wins if they can successfully sabotage the broadcast to a certain level or if they can evade detection long enough to reach a specific condition outlined in the game's rules.
