The app has been developed for Panjtan Society of Victoria, Inc, also known as PSV Melbourne. The Panjtan Society of Victoria (PSV) is a non-profit registered organization of the Shia Ithna Asheri Muslim community of Melbourne, Australia (Melbourne Shia Community, Shias in Melbourne, Shias in Australia).
It is serving the religious and educational needs of over 1000 members of the Urdu-speaking community of India, Pakistan, East Africa, Singapore and Afghanistan. The society was formed in 1989 on a very small scale, consisting of just a few members. With the passage of time, as the Shia Ithna-Asheri started migrating to this part of the world, the society has grown dramatically in terms of both members and its activities.

Panjtan is a captivating card game that combines strategy, skill, and a touch of luck. It originated in India and is played with a deck of 52 cards, excluding jokers. The game is typically played between two or four players, with each player aiming to be the first to get rid of all their cards.
Gameplay:
Panjtan follows a simple yet engaging gameplay loop. Players take turns drawing and discarding cards, with the goal of forming melds. Melds are sets of cards that meet specific combinations, such as runs (three or more cards in sequence of the same suit) or sets (three or more cards of the same rank).
Card Ranks and Suits:
The cards in Panjtan are ranked from Ace (highest) to 2 (lowest). The suits, in descending order of value, are Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs. Aces can be used as both high and low cards, depending on the meld being formed.
Drawing and Discarding:
On each turn, a player draws a card from the draw pile. If they can form a meld with the drawn card and any cards in their hand, they can lay it down on the table. If they cannot form a meld, they must discard one card from their hand to the discard pile.
Melds:
There are three types of melds in Panjtan:
* Run: A set of three or more cards in sequence of the same suit.
* Set: A set of three or more cards of the same rank.
* Pair: A set of two cards of the same rank.
Scoring:
The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round. They receive points equal to the sum of the values of the remaining cards in their opponents' hands. If a player is unable to form any melds after drawing the entire draw pile, they are "penalized" and receive 26 points.
Strategy and Skill:
Panjtan requires a combination of strategy and skill to master. Players must carefully manage their cards, identify potential melds, and anticipate their opponents' moves. They must also be able to calculate the value of their opponents' remaining cards to determine the best course of action.
Variations:
There are several variations of Panjtan, each with its own unique rules and scoring system. Some popular variations include:
* Indian Panjtan: The original version of the game, played with a deck of 52 cards.
* Pakistani Panjtan: Similar to Indian Panjtan, but with a few minor rule differences.
* Online Panjtan: A digital version of the game that allows players to compete against others online.
Conclusion:
Panjtan is a highly engaging and entertaining card game that offers a perfect balance of skill and chance. Its simple rules make it accessible to players of all ages, while its strategic gameplay provides a challenging and rewarding experience. Whether played casually with friends or competitively in tournaments, Panjtan is sure to provide hours of enjoyment.
