Macau International Airport (MFM), also known as Macau Airport, is the sole international airport serving Macau, a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Located on reclaimed land in Taipa, it is the 38th busiest airport in Asia and the 13th busiest in China, handling over 10 million passengers annually.

History

The airport was originally built as a military airstrip by the Portuguese colonial government in the 1940s. In 1962, it was expanded and opened to civilian traffic, becoming Macau's first international airport. The airport has undergone several major expansions and renovations over the years, including the construction of a new terminal in 1995 and a new runway in 2005.

Infrastructure

Macau International Airport has one passenger terminal, which is divided into three levels. The first level houses the check-in counters, baggage claim, and immigration counters. The second level is dedicated to departures, with duty-free shops, restaurants, and lounges. The third level is reserved for arrivals.

The airport has two runways, one of which is 3,360 meters long and the other is 2,250 meters long. It can accommodate a wide range of aircraft, including the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A380.

Macau International Airport is served by over 20 airlines, including Air Macau, China Airlines, EVA Air, and Korean Air. The airport offers direct flights to over 50 destinations in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Macau International Airport is well-connected to the city center and other parts of Macau. The airport express bus provides regular service to the Macau Ferry Terminal and the Taipa Ferry Terminal. The airport is also served by taxis and private cars.

Future Development

Macau International Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion project, which is expected to be completed in 2025. The project includes the construction of a new terminal, a new runway, and a new control tower. The expansion will increase the airport's capacity to handle up to 15 million passengers annually.
