KUTV TV, virtual channel 2, is a CBS-affiliated television station licensed to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The station is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and serves as the flagship station for the company's Utah Television Group. KUTV TV's studios are located on 300 West and 200 South in Salt Lake City, and its transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains.

History

KUTV TV began broadcasting on September 15, 1954, as KTVT. The station was originally owned by the Salt Lake Tribune and was the first television station in Utah. In 1959, KTVT was sold to CBS, which changed the station's call letters to KUTV.

In 1986, CBS sold KUTV to Gaylord Broadcasting. In 2013, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced that it would acquire KUTV and its sister station, KSTU, from Gaylord. The sale was completed in 2014.

Programming

KUTV TV's programming lineup includes a mix of local news, syndicated programming, and CBS network shows. The station's local newscasts are branded as "2News" and are produced from the station's studios in Salt Lake City.

In addition to its local newscasts, KUTV TV also produces a number of local programs, including the public affairs show "Utah This Week" and the lifestyle show "Studio 2."

Technical Information

KUTV TV broadcasts on digital channel 2 and virtual channel 2. The station's transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains. KUTV TV's signal covers most of Utah, as well as parts of Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming.

KUTV TV has won numerous awards for its news coverage, including several Edward R. Murrow Awards and regional Emmy Awards. The station has also been recognized for its community service, including its work with the United Way and the American Red Cross.
