KCTV5 News - Kansas CityKCTV5 News is the CBS-affiliated television station for the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is owned by Gray Television and broadcasts from studios located in Overland Park, Kansas.
History
KCTV5 first went on the air on September 28, 1953, as WDAF-TV. The station was originally owned by the Kansas City Star Company, which also owned the city's daily newspaper, The Kansas City Star. In 1955, WDAF-TV became the first television station in Kansas City to broadcast in color.
In 1986, the Kansas City Star Company sold WDAF-TV to Taft Broadcasting. Taft changed the station's call letters to KCTV in 1994. In 2007, KCTV was sold to Gray Television.
News Operation
KCTV5 News produces several local newscasts each day, including a morning show, a midday show, an evening show, and a late-night show. The station also produces a number of special reports and documentaries throughout the year.
