Gardy Oviedo is a professional baseball shortstop who has played for several teams in the Major League Baseball (MLB) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

Early Life and Career:

Born in Maracay, Venezuela, on November 15, 1990, Gardy Oviedo began his professional baseball career in the Venezuelan Summer League in 2007. He played for the GCL Rays and Hudson Valley Renegades in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013.

MLB Career:

Oviedo's MLB career has been marked by both promise and challenges. He played for the Rays from 2013 to 2015, appearing in a total of 114 games. During this time, he showed flashes of his potential, hitting for a .250 batting average and providing solid defense at shortstop.

However, injuries and inconsistent performance hampered Oviedo's progress. He was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2015 and spent the next three seasons with the team. Despite some impressive performances, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

NPB Career:

In 2019, Oviedo signed with the Orix Buffaloes of the NPB. He played for the team for two seasons, showcasing his defensive skills and improving his offensive production. In 2020, he batted .280 with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs, earning a spot on the NPB Best Nine team.

Return to MLB:

In 2021, Oviedo returned to the MLB, signing a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels. He spent the season in Triple-A, where he continued to perform well, batting .285 with 11 home runs and 63 RBIs.
