Zapotec Texmelucan Bible

The Zapotec Texmelucan Bible is a unique and valuable translation of the Bible into the Zapotec language, spoken by the indigenous Zapotec people of Mexico. This translation was commissioned by the Franciscans in the 16th century and completed in 1571.

The Bible was translated by Fray Juan de Córdova, a Franciscan friar who had learned the Zapotec language while working as a missionary in the region. Córdova's translation was based on the Latin Vulgate, the official Bible of the Catholic Church at the time.

The Zapotec Texmelucan Bible is significant for several reasons. First, it is one of the earliest translations of the Bible into an indigenous language in the Americas. Second, it is a valuable resource for studying the Zapotec language and culture. Third, it is a testament to the efforts of the Franciscans to spread Christianity among the indigenous peoples of Mexico.

The Zapotec Texmelucan Bible is divided into two volumes, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books, while the New Testament contains 27 books. The Bible is written in a clear and concise style, and it is easy to read and understand.

The Zapotec Texmelucan Bible has been used by Zapotec people for centuries, and it continues to be an important part of their religious and cultural life. The Bible has been reprinted several times, and it is now available in both print and digital formats.

The Zapotec Texmelucan Bible is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the Zapotec language, culture, or religion. It is a testament to the power of the Bible to transform lives and cultures.
