Sonoma Raceway, formerly known as Sears Point Raceway, is a 2.52-mile (4.06-kilometer) road course located in Sonoma, California, United States. The track is known for its challenging layout, featuring 12 turns, elevation changes, and a long straightaway.
History
Sonoma Raceway was built in 1968 and has hosted various racing events, including the NASCAR Cup Series, NTT IndyCar Series, and SCCA Trans-Am Series. The track has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years, including the addition of a chicane in 2019 to slow down cars entering Turn 7.
Layout
Sonoma Raceway is a clockwise road course with a mix of fast and slow corners. The track starts with a short straightaway leading into Turn 1, a sharp right-hander. This is followed by a series of technical turns, including the esses (Turns 3-4) and the Carousel (Turn 7).
The Carousel is one of the most iconic corners on the track, a high-speed left-hander that requires precise driving to maintain momentum. After the Carousel, the track opens up with a long straightaway, followed by a downhill section and a series of turns leading back to the start-finish line.
Racing
Sonoma Raceway is known for producing exciting and unpredictable races. The challenging layout provides multiple overtaking opportunities, and the close proximity of the grandstands to the track creates an electric atmosphere.
The NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma is a popular event, with drivers often employing different strategies to navigate the track's complexities. The NTT IndyCar Series also races at Sonoma, where the high speeds and technical corners test the drivers' skills.
Facilities

Legacy
