Overview

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a semi-professional soccer league system in Australia. It is the second tier of the Australian soccer pyramid, below the A-League. The NPL is divided into eight regional divisions, each of which has its own league structure. The top teams from each division qualify for the NPL Finals Series, which determines the overall NPL champion.

History

The NPL was established in 2013, replacing the former National Premier League (NSW) and National Premier League (Victoria). The league was created to provide a national platform for semi-professional soccer clubs, and to give players a pathway to the A-League.

Structure

The NPL is divided into eight regional divisions:

Competition

The NPL season runs from March to September. Each team plays 26 games during the regular season, with the top teams qualifying for the NPL Finals Series. The Finals Series is a knockout tournament, with the winner crowned NPL champion.
