Cat® Methane Number Calculator pour Android. Download now!
Cat® Methane Number Calculator is a brand new app for your mobile phone or tablet to allow quick, convenient calculations of methane number, heating value and other natural gas parameters without needing to use your laptop or complicated software. Standard gas samples are pre-loaded or you may enter your own sample from your job site.
This app allows you to enter the constituents of your gas sample in Mole percentages and calculate the Cat® methane number, heating values, inert ratios, compressibility factor, Stoich A/F ratios, specific gravity and specific heat ration in both English and metric. It is loaded with these standard fuels: Coal Seam, Field Gas, Methane, Low Energy, Natural Gas and Propane. You can save your own custom fuels within the app for future reference.
The Cat® Methane Number Calculator is a valuable tool for understanding the impact of methane on the performance and emissions of natural gas engines. Methane number (MN) is a measure of a fuel's resistance to knocking, similar to the octane number used for gasoline. A higher MN indicates a fuel that is less likely to knock, resulting in smoother engine operation and reduced emissions.
Methane Number and Engine Performance
The methane number of a fuel affects its combustion characteristics in a natural gas engine. Fuels with a higher MN burn more evenly and completely, leading to:
* Reduced knocking and pre-ignition
* Improved engine efficiency
* Lower emissions of harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM)
Methane Number and Fuel Composition
The MN of a natural gas fuel is primarily determined by its composition. Higher levels of methane, the main component of natural gas, result in a higher MN. Other components, such as ethane, propane, and butane, have lower MNs and can reduce the overall MN of the fuel.
Using the Cat® Methane Number Calculator
The Cat® Methane Number Calculator allows users to estimate the MN of a natural gas fuel based on its composition. The calculator requires the user to input the mole percentages of methane, ethane, propane, and butane in the fuel. The calculator then uses an empirical formula to calculate the MN.
Benefits of Using the Cat® Methane Number Calculator
The Cat® Methane Number Calculator provides several benefits for users:
* Accurate MN estimation: The calculator uses industry-accepted formulas to provide accurate estimates of MN based on fuel composition.
* Easy to use: The calculator is designed to be user-friendly and accessible to a wide range of users.
* Optimized engine performance: By understanding the MN of a fuel, users can select fuels that will optimize engine performance and minimize emissions.
* Reduced operating costs: Fuels with higher MNs can help reduce operating costs by improving engine efficiency and reducing maintenance needs.
* Improved environmental compliance: Using fuels with higher MNs can help engines meet emissions regulations and reduce the environmental impact of natural gas combustion.
