Upwords is a classic board game that combines the strategy of Scrabble with the spatial challenge of stacking letter tiles vertically. Players compete to create words that extend both horizontally and vertically, scoring points for each letter used and additional bonuses for building upon existing words or forming higher-scoring combinations.

Game Setup:

The game is played on a 7x7 grid board with a central "star" space. Each player receives a set of letter tiles and a rack to hold them. The first player randomly selects a tile and places it face up on the star space, starting the game.

Gameplay:

On their turn, a player can do one of three actions:

1. Play a Letter: Place a letter tile on an empty space adjacent to a letter already on the board, forming a word horizontally or vertically.

2. Stack a Letter: Place a letter tile on top of an existing letter, creating a word that extends vertically.

3. Pass: If a player cannot make a valid move, they can pass their turn.

Scoring:

* Basic Points: Each letter used in a word earns 1 point.

* Word Length Bonus: Words of 3 or more letters earn a 1-point bonus.

* Stacking Bonus: Each letter stacked vertically earns an additional 1 point.

* Star Bonus: Words that use the central star space earn a 5-point bonus.

* Bingo Bonus: Using all seven letter tiles in one turn earns a 50-point bonus.

Special Tiles:

Upwords includes two special tiles:

* Blank Tile: Can represent any letter, but does not score points.

* Reverse Tile: Reverses the direction of play, forcing the next player to stack letters upwards instead of downwards.

Winning the Game:

The game ends when all letter tiles have been used or all players have passed consecutively. The player with the highest score wins.

Strategy Tips:

* Plan ahead and think vertically. Stacking letters strategically can lead to higher-scoring combinations.

* Use blank tiles wisely to fill in gaps and create new words.

* Control the central star space to maximize your scoring potential.

* Pay attention to your opponents' moves and block their attempts to build upon your words.

* Don't be afraid to pass if you cannot make a good move. Passing allows you to draw new tiles and wait for a better opportunity.
