Spades is a classic trick-taking card game for four players in two partnerships. The goal is to be the first team to reach 500 points by winning tricks and bidding accurately.

Gameplay

Each player is dealt 13 cards. The player to the left of the dealer leads with any card. Other players must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play a spade or any other card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a spade is played, in which case the highest spade wins.

Bidding

Before each hand, each player bids on how many tricks they believe their team will take. Bids range from 0 to 13. The total of the two partners' bids is the team's contract. If the team meets or exceeds their contract, they score 10 points for each trick bid. If they fail to make their contract, they lose 10 points for each trick they missed.

Special Bids

* Nil: A bid of 0 tricks. If successful, the player scores 100 points.

* Blind Nil: A bid of 0 tricks made before looking at one's cards. If successful, the player scores 200 points.

Spades

Spades are the trump suit. A spade can be played at any time, even if another suit was led. The highest spade played wins the trick.

Scoring

* Tricks: 10 points per trick bid and made

* Bags: 10 points for each trick over the team's contract

* Nil: 100 points for a successful nil bid

* Blind Nil: 200 points for a successful blind nil bid

Winning

The first team to reach 500 points wins the game. If both teams reach 500 points on the same hand, the team with the higher score wins.
